This morning I deadheaded from PHL to MDW. During the flight I checked my email to pass the time. I found an announcement for a wine label contest for Live In The Vinyard. I just happened to have some watercolors and paper in my bag, so when I got to Chicago, I spent my 4 hours of ground time creating a label that "represents the fun-luving spirit of Southwest". It's not my best work, but in a pinch I thought it might do. The other idea was to write the word "WINE" on the label, then put "no" in front of it in small letters, an "h" inserted after the "W", and "ing" in small letters at the end. I didn't get around to that one, but I thought it was pretty funny. Maybe I'll do that too. Let me see if I can find a sharpie...

Want to say thank you to my friend Sandy for showing me how to do one of these. There's a whole program/course you can take, supplies you can buy, but so far my scrap paper and gel pen have been ok to get my Zen on. :-) Look it up - Zentangle.com stimulates your creativity. Pulls it out of hiding for you. I find that it's a little hard to stop once I get started on one. Don't be afraid! Try one!! Comments or questions welcome!
Today I started a trip in Chicago, after plowing the sidewalks with my roller bag. One delayed flight to Baltimore, then missed my flight back to Chicago. Scheduling really wanted me in Philly for the night. Did you know that to get to PHL from BWI, without going through MDW, you have to fly to Fort Lauderdale, then back up to PHL? Me neither. Here's some stuff I saw, and a little painting I did on my deadhead. Today's artistic endeavor involved putting on my big girl panties, or boots in this case, and going out in the cold. I braved the temps and took the train to downtown Chicago, mainly because I needed to restock my food bag. Once outside, I realized it wasn't THAT bad. I mean at least the sun had made an appearance. I walked down by Shedd Aquarium to see frozen Lake Michigan. It was beautiful...and, uh...frozen. I walked to the edge to look closer at the animal footprints- mostly birds, I think. Creeped me out a little to think that if I fell off the edge of the sidewalk I might not return to tell about it. Not like in the summer when I could just swim to the side and get out. So... I took this picture and went back to Trader Joe's. On my way out, a woman was asking for spare change. I had my train pass in my teeth while I fumbled with my bags and told her I had no cash. She said "Then gimme that card and I'll eat that!" Then she just laughed and laughed and told me to have a blessed day. I guess I did :-)
I took this picture during a run along the waterfront at Seaport Village, in San Diego. This is where I started my day today. I flew east to snowy Baltimore, then to Chicago, where it reached a high of 18 degrees today. What a stark difference in temperatures and attitudes! Sigh... I'm hanging in there, though, and soon the days will be longer, and warmer, and sunshine will be taken for granted again. I get through the winter by traveling to warmer destinations when I work. Somewhere "where the weather suits my clothes." And you can be sure there's always a pair of flip flops in my suitcase. How do you get through? March 2nd - yesterday I was looking up the weather for the overnights on my next trip. I had 21 hours in Charleston coming up and was hoping to get downtown and look around. While searching, The Weather Channel provided some interesting distractions - beautiful pictures if this pretty place, Burano, Italy. I was instantly smitten! Now I wanna go see it and sit and paint it!! I printed out a couple of pictures and packed them in my overnight bags. Today I landed in CHS, where it was colder than expected, and rainy. Sooooo...after a nap, workout, dinner, and Cabernet, I pulled out the pictures. Here's what I created. Fun!! Now let's go for real!! |
