 Sometimes, being creative can be a struggle. Think "Writer's Block." That's when I know it's time to do what I call "feeding my soul." Today that's exactly what I did. I found this great book many years ago called "Paint Happy". It has been a great source of inspiration and has helped me to get out of a funk on more than one occasion. There's a particularly interesting activity where you use both hands at the same time to draw a symmetrical picture, like a flower or a heart or something. (See picture below) It makes you use both sides of your brain, takes focus and concentration, and stimulates visual perceptual centers and coordination areas. I find that it helps to get me thinking creatively. Try it! It seems to work best if you can do it with 2 different colors on a dry erase board or something like that. But paper and pen or pencil work just as well. Just tape the paper down so it doesn't move around while you work. Let the pencil/marker just flow over the paper, and always move both hands at the same time. Don't correct "mistakes", just let it become what it becomes. There's no wrong or right, good or bad, it's just an exercise for your mind. I'd love to hear how that works for you! Better yet, email me a picture!   Today was not a terribly creative day. I had a root canal this morning that sort of slowed down my mojo. I did work in the garden and planted some seeds for spinach, lettuce, and radishes. That's creative enough! And so I sat down at the computer tonight to tell you that was all I had, when I saw this. Below is what I wrote, I'm assuming, on NYE this year, but thought it got deleted. So...Without further ado, here's my New Years Eve post: 2014- This year is a new beginning. For me 2013 brought a lot of the things that you might expect in life - surprises, tragedies, romance, heartbreak, sunrises, sunsets, smiles, but also tears. I feel so lucky to have had one of the best years of my life, full of happiness and love, but filled also with lessons and growth through the sorrows that have occurred. I've sure been reminded to trust the process, and that despite my best efforts I cannot control everything. It was a year of changes - moving, my daughter moving far from me, adding "bonus daughters", changing dreams, changing focus, changing my name... All big events packed into one year. So as I start the new year, (as Mrs. Scripps!!), I am resolving to be grateful for everything I have in my life, and for the rich experiences that I am so fortunate to be a part of. I will keep my eyes and heart open to all the beautiful people and things around me, and not take one person or one second for granted. And thank you, Mr. Scripps, for bringing such a wonderful, positive, loving, and encouraging influence to my life. Happy New Year, everyone!! It's your story - write a good one!  This morning I deadheaded from PHL to MDW. During the flight I checked my email to pass the time. I found an announcement for a wine label contest for Live In The Vinyard. I just happened to have some watercolors and paper in my bag, so when I got to Chicago, I spent my 4 hours of ground time creating a label that "represents the fun-luving spirit of Southwest". It's not my best work, but in a pinch I thought it might do. The other idea was to write the word "WINE" on the label, then put "no" in front of it in small letters, an "h" inserted after the "W", and "ing" in small letters at the end. I didn't get around to that one, but I thought it was pretty funny. Maybe I'll do that too. Let me see if I can find a sharpie...
 BIG, exciting news!!! I've been invited to be the guest artist at Walton And Main Studios in November! Reception will be on November 15, 2013, the night of The Gallery Hop, in Lexington. I have several new pieces - all about music, love, inspiration, and a few Lexington city-scapes. So excited!! Also, I have been invited to/accepted at The Artists' Attic in downtown Lexington, an artist studio/co-op. That means I'll be moving into a studio space there!!! (See pics below) My goal is to make it more like a "job", in the sense that I make time to go just about every day, make it a priority. My space is gorgeous...exposed brick, windows for natural light, and a skylight right outside the door (ceiling and upper wall are open). It's open to the public daily and included in of all the Gallery Hop events, so there will be some foot traffic and exposure that way. Plus, it's a great opportunity to mingle and learn from some other fantastic artists. Seriously, I feel a little out of my league!! Or a Lot, lol! But I will be able to learn and grow as an artist. I am so grateful and lucky to be able to do this. I am also soooo lucky and grateful to be marrying a man who supports and encourages this crazy Artist's endeavors. He is the inspiration behind my artwork. I am beyond thrilled!!! Please come by and see my stuff at Walton and Main Studios, and see my studio at The Artists' Attic, downtown Lexington.
