Today was not a terribly creative day. I had a root canal this morning that sort of slowed down my mojo. I did work in the garden and planted some seeds for spinach, lettuce, and radishes. That's creative enough! And so I sat down at the computer tonight to tell you that was all I had, when I saw this. Below is what I wrote, I'm assuming, on NYE this year, but thought it got deleted. So...Without further ado, here's my New Years Eve post: 2014- This year is a new beginning. For me 2013 brought a lot of the things that you might expect in life - surprises, tragedies, romance, heartbreak, sunrises, sunsets, smiles, but also tears. I feel so lucky to have had one of the best years of my life, full of happiness and love, but filled also with lessons and growth through the sorrows that have occurred. I've sure been reminded to trust the process, and that despite my best efforts I cannot control everything. It was a year of changes - moving, my daughter moving far from me, adding "bonus daughters", changing dreams, changing focus, changing my name... All big events packed into one year. So as I start the new year, (as Mrs. Scripps!!), I am resolving to be grateful for everything I have in my life, and for the rich experiences that I am so fortunate to be a part of. I will keep my eyes and heart open to all the beautiful people and things around me, and not take one person or one second for granted. And thank you, Mr. Scripps, for bringing such a wonderful, positive, loving, and encouraging influence to my life. Happy New Year, everyone!! It's your story - write a good one! Today was a very creative day! I finished and delivered my rain barrel for the Bluegrass Greensource Rain Barrel Auction. I will post some full pictures of it tomorrow, but here is the top of it. I added a short poem that I wrote today just for the heck of it. I was feeling inspired by the first flower that showed up in my garden today. (see next picture) Also finished today is the Dancin' Daisies trio. 5 x 5 squares with pretty little Shastas on them. I'm thinking of doing one big one, on a 24 x 32 canvas. It's good to be home and in the studio! This pretty princess! Not sure what this was about, but as I was leaving Kentucky Crafted, I got to watch her stroll across the street. Please help me with a caption for this - (click Comment or Reply)
Also, I realize I missed yesterday but...I'm giving myself a break since I was commuting home for the first time since the 23rd. I was busy being HOME. :) And I didn't do anything more creative than eat sushi and frosting. Not at the same time. This morning I deadheaded from PHL to MDW. During the flight I checked my email to pass the time. I found an announcement for a wine label contest for Live In The Vinyard. I just happened to have some watercolors and paper in my bag, so when I got to Chicago, I spent my 4 hours of ground time creating a label that "represents the fun-luving spirit of Southwest". It's not my best work, but in a pinch I thought it might do. The other idea was to write the word "WINE" on the label, then put "no" in front of it in small letters, an "h" inserted after the "W", and "ing" in small letters at the end. I didn't get around to that one, but I thought it was pretty funny. Maybe I'll do that too. Let me see if I can find a sharpie... Want to say thank you to my friend Sandy for showing me how to do one of these. There's a whole program/course you can take, supplies you can buy, but so far my scrap paper and gel pen have been ok to get my Zen on. :-) Look it up - Zentangle.com stimulates your creativity. Pulls it out of hiding for you. I find that it's a little hard to stop once I get started on one. Don't be afraid! Try one!! Comments or questions welcome!
Today I started a trip in Chicago, after plowing the sidewalks with my roller bag. One delayed flight to Baltimore, then missed my flight back to Chicago. Scheduling really wanted me in Philly for the night. Did you know that to get to PHL from BWI, without going through MDW, you have to fly to Fort Lauderdale, then back up to PHL? Me neither. Here's some stuff I saw, and a little painting I did on my deadhead. Today's artistic endeavor involved putting on my big girl panties, or boots in this case, and going out in the cold. I braved the temps and took the train to downtown Chicago, mainly because I needed to restock my food bag. Once outside, I realized it wasn't THAT bad. I mean at least the sun had made an appearance. I walked down by Shedd Aquarium to see frozen Lake Michigan. It was beautiful...and, uh...frozen. I walked to the edge to look closer at the animal footprints- mostly birds, I think. Creeped me out a little to think that if I fell off the edge of the sidewalk I might not return to tell about it. Not like in the summer when I could just swim to the side and get out. So... I took this picture and went back to Trader Joe's. On my way out, a woman was asking for spare change. I had my train pass in my teeth while I fumbled with my bags and told her I had no cash. She said "Then gimme that card and I'll eat that!" Then she just laughed and laughed and told me to have a blessed day. I guess I did :-)
I took this picture during a run along the waterfront at Seaport Village, in San Diego. This is where I started my day today. I flew east to snowy Baltimore, then to Chicago, where it reached a high of 18 degrees today. What a stark difference in temperatures and attitudes! Sigh... I'm hanging in there, though, and soon the days will be longer, and warmer, and sunshine will be taken for granted again. I get through the winter by traveling to warmer destinations when I work. Somewhere "where the weather suits my clothes." And you can be sure there's always a pair of flip flops in my suitcase. How do you get through? March 2nd - yesterday I was looking up the weather for the overnights on my next trip. I had 21 hours in Charleston coming up and was hoping to get downtown and look around. While searching, The Weather Channel provided some interesting distractions - beautiful pictures if this pretty place, Burano, Italy. I was instantly smitten! Now I wanna go see it and sit and paint it!! I printed out a couple of pictures and packed them in my overnight bags. Today I landed in CHS, where it was colder than expected, and rainy. Sooooo...after a nap, workout, dinner, and Cabernet, I pulled out the pictures. Here's what I created. Fun!! Now let's go for real!! BIG, exciting news!!! I've been invited to be the guest artist at Walton And Main Studios in November! Reception will be on November 15, 2013, the night of The Gallery Hop, in Lexington. I have several new pieces - all about music, love, inspiration, and a few Lexington city-scapes. So excited!! Also, I have been invited to/accepted at The Artists' Attic in downtown Lexington, an artist studio/co-op. That means I'll be moving into a studio space there!!! (See pics below) My goal is to make it more like a "job", in the sense that I make time to go just about every day, make it a priority. My space is gorgeous...exposed brick, windows for natural light, and a skylight right outside the door (ceiling and upper wall are open). It's open to the public daily and included in of all the Gallery Hop events, so there will be some foot traffic and exposure that way. Plus, it's a great opportunity to mingle and learn from some other fantastic artists. Seriously, I feel a little out of my league!! Or a Lot, lol! But I will be able to learn and grow as an artist. I am so grateful and lucky to be able to do this. I am also soooo lucky and grateful to be marrying a man who supports and encourages this crazy Artist's endeavors. He is the inspiration behind my artwork. I am beyond thrilled!!! Please come by and see my stuff at Walton and Main Studios, and see my studio at The Artists' Attic, downtown Lexington. And do feel free to leave me comments on my blog and on my page! Thanks so much!! Comments? |
